About the role

The Communications Lead is responsible for developing and executing strategic internal and external communications across PowerGrid Services and its family of companies. This role serves as a key writer, storyteller, and messaging resource, ensuring communications are clear, consistent, professional, and aligned with PowerGrid's brand, culture, safety values, and business objectives.

Partnering closely with executive leadership, Business Unit leaders, Marketing, Business Development, Human Resources, Safety, and other functional teams, the Communications Lead creates content for employees, customers, industry audiences, media, and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer capable of translating business information and complex topics into compelling, audience-focused communications.

Responsibilities

  • Internal & External Communications
    • Write, edit, and coordinate enterprise communications across the organization.
    • Develop communication plans, messaging frameworks, talking points, FAQs, and leadership communications.
    • Create employee announcements, organizational updates, presentations, video scripts, intranet content, newsletters, and other communications.
    • Interview leaders and subject matter experts to gather content and develop authentic stories.
    • Adapt messaging for diverse audiences including employees, customers, industry partners, media, and stakeholders.
    • Ensure consistency in company voice, tone, terminology, and messaging.
  • Public Relations & External Communications
    • Support public relations strategies and external communication initiatives.
    • Draft press releases, media statements, company announcements, executive talking points, award submissions, and contributed articles.
    • Identify opportunities to promote company and Business Unit success stories.
    • Coordinate with external public relations and communications partners.
    • Assist with media inquiries and executive preparation for interviews, speaking engagements, and industry events.
    • Maintain company profiles, executive biographies, boilerplate language, and key corporate facts.
    • Support communications related to acquisitions, major project awards, leadership appointments, growth initiatives, and community involvement.
  • Executive & Leadership Communications
    • Draft and edit CEO and executive communications while maintaining each leader's authentic voice.
    • Support CEO messages, leadership videos, State of the Company communications, presentations, scripts, and talking points.
    • Translate business priorities and complex information into meaningful employee and stakeholder communications.
    • Promote consistency in leadership messaging across the organization.
  • Employee & Enterprise Communications
    • Develop communications related to new hires, promotions, leadership changes, policy updates, organizational changes, and employee recognition.
    • Maintain intranet content, employee stories, and company news.
    • Partner with Business Units to highlight employee achievements, project milestones, customer successes, safety accomplishments, and community involvement.
    • Support communications related to safety, culture, engagement, operational excellence, and strategic initiatives.
    • Maintain and support the enterprise editorial and communications calendar.
  • Business & Brand Storytelling
    • Develop content highlighting projects, customers, employees, innovation, safety achievements, community engagement, and company growth.
    • Partner with Business Development and Marketing to create customer- and industry-focused content.
    • Promote the overall PowerGrid brand while showcasing individual Business Unit strengths.
    • Support website content, brochures, presentations, social media, case studies, and marketing materials.
  • Communication Standards & Governance
    • Maintain communication templates, messaging standards, taglines, and communication resources.
    • Review communications for clarity, consistency, tone, and brand alignment.
    • Educate leaders and employees on approved communication tools and templates.
    • Identify opportunities to improve communication processes, content quality, and messaging consistency.

Requirements

  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related field.
  • Experience
    • 3–5 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, internal communications, journalism, content development, or a related communications role.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills.
    • Experience developing content for multiple audiences.
    • Ability to translate technical, operational, or complex information into clear, engaging messaging.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
    • High level of attention to detail, accuracy, discretion, and professional judgment.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
    • Ability to provide writing samples or a professional portfolio.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting executive and leadership communications.
  • Experience in public relations, media relations, or external corporate communications.
  • Experience managing intranet and employee communication platforms, including SharePoint.
  • Background supporting multi-location, decentralized, construction, utility, infrastructure, field-service, or industrial organizations.
  • Experience supporting organizational change, mergers, acquisitions, or integration communications.
  • Familiarity with social media and digital content development.
  • Basic graphic design and visual communication skills.
