Lead AV Installation Technician

The Lead AV Installation Technician is the key field position responsible for performing a wide variety of installation duties on technology projects for our clients, coordinating with project management, field superintendents, and others to fully understand their role on specific projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee installation technicians while performing hands-on installation of commercial AV systems.
• Manage daily workload, priorities, and schedules, maintaining progress and escalating risks as needed.
• Identify and escalate design, drawing, or material issues, including missing or defective equipment.
• Lead and delegate tasks to install crews, subcontractors, and union trades; may regularly lead a team on large projects.
• Verify that all work complies with Diversified’s and clients' QC standards.
• Oversee field operations in situations without a dedicated on-site superintendent.
• Perform physical installation of a wide variety of technology into diverse locations.
• Execute a wide variety of cabling terminations for all wire and connector types, including verifying crew terminations to company standards.
• Support the preparation of equipment racks for staging, including wire lacing, power strips, grounding bars, and jack-fields.
• Read and understand functional design drawings and cable riser diagrams.
• Mount base build equipment such as monitor mounts, ceiling speakers, microphones, and projectors.
• Provide consistent technical performance and flexibility in work schedule, including periodic overtime and weekend work to meet client deadlines.
• Complete assignments in accordance with or better than established task durations and estimate task durations to meet deadlines.
• Provide daily feedback to field site supervisor and/or direct manager.
• Build and wire custom panels from engineering drawings.
• Handle advanced fiber optic cable installation, termination, repair, and testing.
• Generate cable labels and manage wire listing activities per company standards.
• Maintain an organized work environment, including cleanliness of the shop and jobsites.
• Track and maintain toolkit, company vehicles, and installation materials inventories; keep things clean, orderly, and well-documented.
• Maintain an on-site job box when applicable.
• Check in drop-shipped items and maintain on-site materials needed by the crew; work with the PM to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials.
• Track and maintain personal licenses, certifications, and qualifications (some states have specific requirements).
• Maintain daily records of time worked on specific projects for timesheet entry and an employee/contractor information log to share with management.

Requirements

• Five or more years as a commercial AV installation technician or related industry experience.
• Experienced in supervising, coaching, and training technicians to company standards while providing constructive feedback.
• Advanced technical knowledge of AV system components, cabling, device integration, and rack assembly.
• Strong ability to interpret and implement complex project documentation independently.
• Knowledgeable of low voltage electrical concepts.
• Familiarity with a wide range of audio, video, and networking equipment.
• Advanced carpentry and/or installation skills.
• Proficient use and safety with power tools.
• Good verbal communication skills and customer service skills.
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems.
• Valid driver’s license and adherence to insurance requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• OSHA 30 Certificate required.
• Associates/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
• AVIXA CTS Certification is highly desired.
• AVIXA CTS-I Certification is highly desired.
• Other relevant certifications may be required or preferred based on the technology focus of the position.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee. The employee may be exposed to construction site conditions on a regular basis and must comply with all safety regulations, including the use of PPE. The employee can typically spend at least 60% of their time on their feet and be required to move around the construction site. The employee must have the ability to occasionally climb ladders, use stairs, and lift and/or move materials up to 40 pounds. The individual is regularly required to use keyboards, test equipment, and controls for system installation projects. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth vision. When not on construction sites, the employee will experience normal office conditions.

Travel

Frequent travel by car and occasional airplane trips are required. Employee must possess a valid driver’s license in their state of residence and will be required to use their own vehicle, reimbursed for mileage at the current corporate rate. Local travel to job sites (within a 2-hour driving distance each way) will make up 70-90% of the role, but remote travel can be up to 30% at times. 10% remote travel is required on a regular basis.
