The Lead AV Installation Technician is responsible for performing a wide variety of installation duties on technology projects for our clients. This position is the key field position for the bulk of the actual work that gets done in our clients’ buildings. The install tech needs to coordinate with project management, field superintendents, and others to fully understand their role on specific projects. They interpret our drawing packages to create the basis of the finished systems. This installation can include displays, projectors, loudspeakers, microphones, equipment racks, etc. The Senior Tech will be responsible for our most complex system designs, will mentor other technicians, and set the example in all aspects of the job.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee installation technicians while performing hands-on installation of commercial AV systems.
• Manage daily workload, priorities, and schedules, maintaining progress and escalating risks as needed.
• Identify and escalate design, drawing, or material issues, including missing or defective equipment.
• Lead and delegate tasks to install crews, subcontractors, and union trades. May be required to regularly lead a team on large projects.
• Verify that all work complies with Diversified’s and clients' QC standards.
• Oversee field operations in situations without a dedicated on-site superintendent.
• Perform physical installation of a wide variety of technology into diverse locations.
• Execute a wide variety of cabling terminations for all wire and connector types, including verifying crew terminations to our standards.
• Support the preparation of equipment racks for staging of equipment, including wire lacing, power strips, grounding bars, and jack-fields.
• Read and understand functional design drawings as well as cable riser diagrams.
• Mount base build equipment such as monitor mounts, ceiling speakers, microphones, and projectors.
• Provide a consistent level of technical performance and flexibility in work schedule, including periodic overtime and weekend work to meet client deadlines.
• Complete assignments in accordance with or better than established task durations and estimate task durations to meet deadlines.
• Provide daily feedback to field site supervisor and/or direct manager.
• Build and wire custom panels from engineering drawings.
• Handle advanced fiber optic cable installation, termination, repair, and testing.
• Generate cable labels and manage all wire listing activities for cable labels per our standards.
• Maintain an organized work environment, including cleanliness of the shop and jobsites.
• Track and maintain toolkit, company vehicles, and installation materials inventories, ensuring cleanliness, orderliness, and documentation.
• Maintain an on-site job box when applicable.
• Check in drop-shipped items and maintain on-site materials needed by the crew, working with the PM to ensure timely delivery.
• Track and maintain personal licenses, certifications, and qualifications (some states have specific requirements).
• Maintain daily records of time worked on specific projects for timesheet entry and an employee/contractor information log to share with management.

Requirements

• Five or more years as a commercial AV installation technician or related industry experience.
• Experienced in supervising, coaching, and training technicians to company standards while providing constructive feedback.
• Advanced technical knowledge of AV system components, cabling, device integration, and rack assembly.
• Strong ability to interpret and implement complex project documentation independently.
• Knowledgeable of low voltage electrical concepts.
• Familiarity with a wide range of audio, video, and networking equipment.
• Possess advanced carpentry and/or installation skills.
• Proficient use and safety with power tools.
• Good verbal communication skills and customer service skills.
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and adhere to our insurance requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• OSHA 30 Certificate required.
• Associates/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
• AVIXA CTS Certification is highly desired.
• AVIXA CTS-I Certification is highly desired.
• Other relevant certifications may be required or preferred based on the technology focus of the position.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee. The employee may be exposed to construction site conditions on a regular basis and must comply with all safety regulations in place by the GC. Use of PPE is usually required on job sites.

• Spend at least 60% of their time on their feet and mobile around the construction site.
• Ability to occasionally climb ladders, use stairs, and lift and/or move materials up to 40 pounds in construction areas.
• Regularly required to use keyboards, test equipment, and controls for system integration installation projects.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth vision.
• When not on construction sites, experience normal office conditions and use office equipment such as computers and peripherals.

Travel

• Frequent travel by car and occasional airplane trips are required. Employee must possess a valid driver’s license in their state of residence.
• Use of personal vehicle is required, with reimbursement for mileage at the current corporate rate.
• Local travel to job sites (within a 2-hour driving distance each way) will make up 70-90% of travel, but remote travel can be up to 30% of the job at times.
• 10% remote travel is required on a regular basis.
