Position Summary
The Laboratory Analyst is responsible for performing complex analytical testing on cannabis and cannabis-derived products using advanced instrumentation such as HPLC, GC-MS, ICP-MS, and microbial testing platforms. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, strict adherence to SOPs, and compliance with all state regulations and ISO/IEC 17025 standards. Laboratory Analysts ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results, maintain detailed records, and contribute to the overall quality and efficiency of laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct analytical testing of cannabis samples using designated instrumentation (e.g., HPLC, GC-MS, ICP-MS, microbial platforms).
- Perform calibrations, system suitability checks, and routine maintenance on laboratory instruments.
- Analyze data, interpret results, and prepare reports in accordance with SOPs and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate chain-of-custody and testing documentation.
- Troubleshoot basic instrument and method issues under the guidance of senior staff or management.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related scientific field required. Minimum 1–2 years of experience in analytical laboratory testing, preferably in a regulated industry. Cannabis testing experience is a plus.
- Skills & Competencies: Proficient in the operation of laboratory instrumentation (HPLC, GC-MS, ICP-MS, microbial platforms). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and LIMS software.
Requirements
- Must meet the minimum legal age requirement to work with cannabis in the state of operation.
- Ability to pass a background check in accordance with applicable laws.
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive motions.
Working Conditions
- Lab setting with exposure to solvents, chemicals, and cannabis-related odors.
- Extended periods of standing and occasional lifting.
- Full-time schedule; may require occasional evenings or weekends to meet deadlines or support client needs.
