About the role

As North America Regulatory Advisor, you will support the execution of US regulatory and commercial efforts for our growing Low Carbon Fuels (LCF) Trading business. Within the LCF Regulatory Team, the role focuses on US and Canadian markets, monitoring the political and legislative landscape for opportunities and threats to our business, and supporting the LCF teams in developing their strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Support the LCF team by providing analysis and insights into current and emerging regulatory requirements impacting the North American markets in the short, medium, and long-term
  • Understand interactions between the various transportation GHG reduction regulations, such as US RFS, Canada CFR, California LCFS, BC LCFS, Oregon CFP, ISCC, and other existing and emerging regulations driving transportation decarbonization
  • Advise the LCF business on commercial implications of regulatory and political changes, providing concise and actionable summaries quickly after major announcements, highlighting risks and opportunities
  • In close collaboration with other teams at Shell, identify and formulate input to advocacy positions to support Shell's overall LCF advocacy strategy
  • Lead implementation of accreditation, certification, chain of custody processes, and reporting requirements across the many new supply chains and business models that will be required to support our growing renewable Shell businesses, supporting new transportation mandates as they come into effect
  • Develop insights and identify opportunities, preparing material to engage commercial leaders and other senior stakeholders
  • Nurture and leverage relationships, managing multiple internal cross-functional and business relationships
  • Combine a vast array of data and knowledge with strategic advice and synthesize it into a clear consistent storyline to ensure effective advocacy as well as drive business implementation
  • Commercial experience and delivery focus with deep interest in renewables
  • Creativity and ability to respond confidently under time pressure to challenges in negotiations with highly experienced, commercially astute professionals
  • Highly motivated with self-starter mentality, strong team player, strong interpersonal and communication skills

Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3 or more years working in energy trading environments
  • Experience interpreting North American low carbon fuel regulations (US RFS, Canada CFR, California LCFS, BC LCFS) required
  • Expertise formulating opinions and advising on commercial/operational impacts to existing and/or new commercial opportunities through the emerging legislation
  • Understanding of the political landscapes of the US and Canada as they relate to energy policy

Benefits

The base salary range for this position is $103,000 - $155,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity. For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents. Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
