About the role
The Maintenance Department Manager role is a unique opportunity to build a department from the ground up. It involves refining processes, recruiting and developing a high-performing team, establishing financial goals, and growing the customer base.
Responsibilities
- Design and refine operational processes
- Recruit, hire, and develop a high-performing team as the department scales
- Establish financial goals aligned with company strategy and manage P&L accountability
- Drive customer acquisition and retention — assist with sales in the interim as needed
- Oversee day-to-day field operations to ensure quality, efficiency, and safety
- Develop and maintain client relationships
- Partner with marketing, HR, and safety teams to support department growth
- Collaborate with other department managers on labor sharing and strategic initiatives
- Lead team meetings, training sessions, and performance evaluations
- Monitor NPS scores and other customer satisfaction metrics; drive improvement
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED
- A bachelor’s degree or 8+ years of green industry experience (4 of those years in management)
- A valid driver’s license and DOT certificate
- A state-issued pesticide applicator license (Pest Control, Lawn & Ornamental) or the ability to obtain one
- Strong financial acumen — experience managing P&L and financial metrics
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft and Google software platforms
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions year-round
- Ability to lift 50 lbs; walk/push/pull up to 3+ miles per day as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience launching or scaling a new business unit, division, or service line
- Background in residential maintenance, horticulture, or LPM practices
- Experience with GGOB (Great Game of Business) or open-book management principles
- Demonstrated success in sales, business development, or client retention
- Familiarity with robotic mowing systems or emerging turf technologies

This is a safety-sensitive position requiring the operation of vehicles and equipment. All candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen (including marijuana), criminal background check, MVR check, and DOT physical (where applicable) before starting employment. Candidates must meet all screening requirements as a condition of employment.
