Law Enforcement Security Officer: Part Time Armed Patrol Operations

About the role

As an Armed Patrol Officer at a government transportation location, you will conduct routine patrols, maintain a visible presence to help deter security-related incidents, respond to concerns, and provide professional customer service to travelers, staff, and visitors. Pay Rate: $34.50 / Hour

Schedule

• Saturday: 07:30 AM - 04:00 PM
• Sunday: 04:30 AM - 01:00 PM

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to clients by carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities.
• Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner.
• Exercise sound judgement and render immediate, appropriate decisions under stressful conditions.
• Conduct regular and random armed patrols of airport terminals, parking areas, access points, perimeter areas, and other assigned locations to help deter unauthorized activity and identify security-related concerns.
• Monitor access control points and restricted areas, verify credentials as assigned, and report suspicious activity, prohibited items, or policy violations according to site procedures.
• Coordinate with airport operations, law enforcement, and emergency personnel as directed.
• Prepare accurate reports and maintain required documentation related to patrols, incidents, observations, and security-related activities.
• Provide a court appearance for citations that are issued on behalf of DOTA, with replacement staffing provided for LEOs attending court proceedings.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional law enforcement experience in the U.S. after graduating from a certified law enforcement academy (Federal, State, or County level).
• Graduate of a Law Enforcement or Military Police Training Program or equivalent (must provide credentials upon applying).
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Law Enforcement Officer License.
• 22+ years of age.
• Able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• No felony convictions or convictions for abuse of a household member under the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18 U.S.C.922(g)(9)).
• No documented truthfulness infractions in violation of Giglio/Henthorn for federal impeachment proceedings.
• Must be mentally and emotionally capable of performing all duties required for assigned post/duties.
• Good physical health and fully capable of performing normal or emergency duties requiring moderate to arduous physical exertion (e.g., standing, walking, patrolling, climbing stairs, running, self-defense).
• Ability to perform essential physical tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:
  • Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs. for a designated distance.
  • Assisting in the safe evacuation of individuals, including carrying a small child or providing support to persons with limited mobility.
• Subject to a random drug screen.
• Must be able to exercise physical force, if required, in the execution of official duties.
• Must pass a security background check conducted by the DOTA pass and ID office.
• Well-groomed and neat in appearance as officially commissioned representatives of the State.
• Pass and complete a one-time physical examination within the past 6 months.
• Pass a 12-panel drug test and all future random drug testing.
• Correctable vision to 20/30 each eye with normal color vision.
• Able to hear at a normal conversational level (a hearing aid may be used).

Qualifications

• Completion of one of the following approved programs:
  • Certified State law enforcement recruit training.
  • Certified County law enforcement recruit training.
  • Federal law enforcement training.
  • Programs approved by the Director.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to supervise personnel and work effectively with airport management, tenants, other law enforcement agencies, and the public on security-related matters.
• Strong moral character, high standards, and truthfulness.
• No record of moral turpitude, domestic violence, untruthfulness, or mental/emotional disorders that may interfere with performance of duties (enhances hiring consideration but not mandatory).
