Law Enforcement Security Officer: Armed Patrol Driver Peace Officer

About the role

As an Armed Patrol Driver Peace Officer in Kahului, HI, you will serve and safeguard clients in industries such as Government. This part-time role allows you to build a flexible schedule and explore new opportunities using our Claim a Shift platform. You will conduct routine vehicle and foot patrols, maintain a visible presence to deter incidents, respond to security-related concerns, and provide professional customer service in a dynamic public-facing environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to clients by carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and emergency response activities.
• Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner.
• Exercise sound judgement and render immediate, appropriate decisions under stressful conditions.
• Conduct regular and random armed patrols of terminal areas, parking facilities, access points, perimeter locations, and other assigned areas to deter unauthorized activity.
• Monitor for and report suspicious activity, unauthorized access, hazards, and security-related concerns in accordance with site procedures and applicable regulations.
• Respond to incidents, alarms, medical emergencies, and critical situations, coordinating with airport operations and public protection personnel as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate activity logs, incident reports, and required documentation while following all applicable armed post procedures.
• Supervise contractor personnel and work effectively with airport management, tenants, other law enforcement agencies, and the public on security-related matters.
• Provide court appearances for citations issued on behalf of DOTA, with replacement staffing provided as needed.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional law enforcement experience in the U.S. after graduating from a certified law enforcement academy (Federal, State, or County level).
• Graduate of a Law Enforcement or Military Police Training Program or equivalent (must provide credentials upon applying).
• Valid Driver’s License and Law Enforcement Officer License.
• 22+ years of age.
• No felony convictions or convictions for abuse of a household member under the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18 U.S.C.922(g)(9)).
• No documented truthfulness infractions in violation of Giglio/Henthorn for federal impeachment proceedings.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Subject to a background investigation and drug screen in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
• Completion of one of the following approved programs:
  • Certified State law enforcement recruit training.
  • Certified County law enforcement recruit training.
  • Federal law enforcement training.
  • Programs approved by the Director.

• Ability to supervise personnel and work effectively with airport management, tenants, law enforcement agencies, and the public.
• Strong moral character, truthfulness, and high standards of conduct.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Courtesy in interpersonal relationships with the public, airport employees, tenants, law enforcement, and security personnel.
• Maturity in conduct, behavior, and attitude.
• Alertness, attentiveness, and professional demeanor.
• Ability to recognize, respond to, and take corrective action in various situations.

Physical Requirements

• Mentally and emotionally capable of performing all assigned duties.
• Good physical health and fully capable of performing moderate to arduous physical exertion, including standing, walking, patrolling for entire shifts, climbing stairs, running, and self-defense.
• Ability to perform essential physical tasks with or without reasonable accommodation, including:
  • Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs. (e.g., fire extinguisher) for a designated distance.
  • Assisting in the safe evacuation of individuals, including carrying a small child or supporting persons with limited mobility.
• Ability to exercise physical force if required in the execution of official duties.
• Pass a one-time physical examination within the past 6 months.
• Pass a 12-panel drug test and all future random drug testing.
• Correctable vision to 20/30 in each eye with normal color vision.
• Able to hear at a normal conversational level (hearing aid permissible).
• Well-groomed and neat in appearance as officially commissioned representatives of the State.
• Pass a security background check conducted by the DOTA pass and ID office.
