Law Enforcement Officer (17881)

Responsibilities

Patrol the university in a mobile unit or by foot patrol to prevent and/or reduce criminal activity, preserve the peace and apprehend offenders.

Respond to emergency and non-emergency situations.

Congducts preliminary investigation of crimes and attempted crimes.

Conducts searches and seizures.

Locates and preserves evidence and crime scenes.

Prepares reports;

Executes arrests when necessary.

Patrol the university to prevent property loss due to fire or flooding.

Renders aid to accident victims and other persons requiring first aid for physical injuries.

Conduct traffic crash investigations, prepare reports utilizing Traffic and Criminal Software (TRACS) and submits findings to supervisor.

Photographs or draws diagrams of crime or accident scenes and interviews principals and eyewitnesses.

Maintains proficiency in the daily operation of the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), ensuring that all reports are complete with required documentation and submitted as required before end of tour of duty.

Requirements

• Must meet the requirements for Chapter 943, Florida Statutes.
• Must have two years of work experience and a valid driver's license.
• Must be in possession of Florida Law Enforcement Certification.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of law enforcement principles and techniques;
• Knowledge of university policies, rules & regulations (to include student codes), current statutes, law updates, standard operating procedures and/or departmental general orders;
• Knowledge of criminal justice system; crime prevention and control procedures; and arrest procedures;
• Knowledge of restraining devices;
• Knowledge and ability to qualify annually on firearms;
• Knowledge and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, in emergency and non-emergency situations;
• Ability to work in dangerous and stressful situations;
• Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures;
• Ability to effectively apply emergency medical care techniques;
• Ability to diffuse potentially situations and have conflict resolution skills;
• Ability to determine work priorities and complete work assignments;
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
• Ability to follow oral and written directives.

Preferred Qualifications

• In addition to the recommended competencies, preferred experience with specialized units and/or military experience will be considered.

Pay

Anticipated Salary Range: $61,500.00

Schedule

Law Enforcement Officers are expected and required to fulfill the duties and responsibilities assigned until fully completed through 80-hour biweekly pay period consisting of six (6) 12-hour workdays and one (1) 8-hour day depending upon the needs of the department.

Officers must be able to work special details and University's events.

Shifts may be changed based on the needs of the agency.
