Law Enforcement Certification & Training Coordinator
This position plays a key role in the oversight, coordination, and continued development of Vermont's Level II Certification Program and Field Training Officer (FTO) program. Working as part of the Academy's training team, the Law Enforcement Certification & Training Coordinator will help administer these programs, collaborate with law enforcement agencies and stakeholders, and support the delivery of consistent, high-quality training that prepares officers for successful careers in law enforcement.
Location & Schedule
This position is based in Pittsford, VT and the hours are 8 AM to 4:30 PM. A minimum of one (1) overnight stay per week is expected, with additional overnights required depending on the needs of training staff and the size of the incoming class. Some travel will be necessary to facilitate training in various locations throughout the state and nationally.
Environmental Factors
- Required to be mentally alert and responsible for the safety, physical well-being, and mental health of up to 45 recruits during training sessions for up to 16 hours daily.
- Stay overnight at the police academy during recruits' sleep time to provide emergency assistance (minimum one night per week).
- Extensive outdoor work in varying conditions and terrains, with travel required to perform duties.
- Duties executed in office, classroom, or various indoor/outdoor venues on the police academy campus or off-site locations.
Requirements
- Three (3) years of professional experience as a certified law enforcement officer, including experience with staff training and development.
- OR four (4) or more years of experience creating and/or facilitating training programs.
- Certification, or eligibility for certification, as a Level III Vermont Law Enforcement Officer.
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation upon receipt of a conditional offer of employment.
- Must pass and maintain required physical training assessments based on current standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in a relevant field.
