About the role
The City of Burbank is accepting applications for Entry Level Law Enforcement positions. Testing is being conducted for immediate hires and to establish a new eligibility list for future hiring needs.
The Burbank Police Department, founded in 1982, is a professionally trained department of 50 sworn officers. The department operates on a 12-hour shift schedule, offering officers every other weekend off to support work-life balance. Officers are represented by the Illinois Council of Police (ICOPs) collective bargaining unit and the department is accredited by the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP).
Pay
- Starting salary (2026): $76,775.00
- Salary in 2027: $79,462.13
- Top salary at 6th year (2028): $121,095.00

Officers may be selected for specialized assignments, including:
- Detective
- School Resource Officer
- Evidence Technician
- Field Training Officer
- Range Officer
- Interpreter
- Canine (K-9) Officer
- Task Force Officer
- Emergency Response Team
- Accident Reconstruction Team
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain an Illinois driver’s license upon hire.
- Must be at least 21 years old by September 2, 2026.
- High school diploma, GED certificate, or high school proficiency statement.
- No felony convictions, certain misdemeanors, or crimes involving moral turpitude.
- Good moral character as defined by 50 ILCS 705/6.
- If possessing a P.O.W.E.R. Card, it must be issued between March 2, 2026, and September 2, 2026. Applicants without a P.O.W.E.R. Card must pass a physical fitness test to take the written examination.
Lateral transfer candidates (currently certified full-time police officers in Illinois or another state) are encouraged to apply directly to the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.
Schedule
12-hour shifts with every other weekend off.
Testing Process
- Orientation: August 28, 2026, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM (optional) at Burbank Police Department.
- Physical Fitness Test: September 20, 2026, check-in 7:30 AM – 8:00 AM, test begins at 8:00 AM.
- Written Examination: September 20, 2026, check-in 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM (doors lock at 10:30 AM), exam begins at 10:30 AM.
