About the role

As a Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officer, you will provide protection for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, one of twelve Reserve Banks that make up the central bank of the United States. Each day involves providing 24/7 protection of Bank property, employees, and valuables. You may be stationed in Lower Manhattan or East Rutherford, New Jersey and should live within a commutable distance of both.

Our FLETA Accredited (Federal Law Enforcement Training Association) Basic Law Enforcement Course (BLEC) (“the Academy”) consists of an intense, highly regimented, extremely rigorous, ten-week physical and academic training program that includes formal legal and law enforcement classroom training, defensive tactics training, de-escalation training, firearms training, and scenario-based training and testing. Participants must graduate the Academy having met all requirements to become a Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officer. Upon successful completion of the Academy, all new officers will undergo Field Training before being assigned to their permanent day, evening, or night tour at either our New York or New Jersey locations. The target start date for New York’s 2027 Academy is February 2027, primarily held at our Lower Manhattan location, with time in our New Jersey location and off-site training in New Jersey.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the physical protection of the people, property, and premises by conducting interior and exterior patrols and manning highly visible surveillance posts in all weather conditions.
  • Conduct diligent inspections and observation of all persons, vehicles, and activity in the vicinity of posts or persons entering the facilities; field interview all unauthorized people and report suspicious or unusual activity; and control pedestrian and vehicle access to the facility.
  • Respond to emergencies and other potentially dangerous situations, threats to Bank personnel and the facility, and exhibit good judgment over life and safety issues while adhering to Federal Law Enforcement protocols, Bank policy, and procedures.
  • Operate security screening equipment at the Bank’s posts, entrances, and garage, including but not limited to video surveillance, recordings, access control, alarms, x-ray machines, metal detectors, and explosive detection equipment.
  • Perform building patrols for safety or security violations and report findings to command staff.
  • Develop and maintain proficiency in areas such as weapons, first aid, CPR, civil disorders, and public relations by attending training classes.
  • Carry firearms and make arrests for offenses against the United States and access law enforcement information pursuant to section 11(q) of the Federal Reserve Act (12 U.S.C. 248(q)).
  • Attend training to meet all physical and classroom training requirements annually.
  • Answer inquiries of the public and employees, monitor employee and visitor IDs, inspect packages and bags, and direct people to their destinations as needed.
  • Prepare logs and input information pertaining to incident and daily activity reports.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Two years of law enforcement experience or two years of military experience (with Honorable Discharge) preferred.
  • Able to successfully complete a rigorous physical and academic Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Academy, as well as annual recertification requirements.
  • Willingness and ability to work a 24/7 schedule, varied hours and overtime, variable shifts (including evenings and overnight), and holiday and weekend work at any of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s locations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain firearms proficiency.
  • Possess a valid unrestricted motor vehicle driver license, have proficient driving skills, and the ability to operate police-equipped vehicles. Must maintain this license for the duration of your employment.

  • Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in situations dealing with the public and employees.
  • Must develop proficiency in the use of personal computer and related software, computerized access and control systems, video surveillance equipment, x-ray and metal screening equipment, various alarm systems, and Automated External Defibrillators.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment background process that includes (but is not limited to) physical and psychological assessments.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to provide clear and concise written and verbal reporting in time-sensitive and high-stress situations.

Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officers operate as law enforcement officers pursuant to the authority given the Board of Governors by Section 11(q) of the Federal Reserve Act. Authorized personnel act as law enforcement officers pursuant to regulations of the Board of Governors and approved by the U.S. Attorney General (Uniform Regulations for Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officers). If hired, Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officers are subject to monthly random drug screening and medical exams every two years. This position is fully onsite at our Lower Manhattan and East Rutherford, NJ offices and does not have remote capabilities.

Pay

$63,500 / year
