As an Armed Driver Incident Response Law Enforcement Airport Security Officer in Lihue, HI, you will serve and safeguard clients in government transportation locations. This role involves conducting routine vehicle and foot patrols, maintaining a visible presence to deter security-related incidents, and responding professionally to situations as they arise. Requirements

To be considered, all applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications (NO EXCEPTIONS):

• 2+ years of professional law enforcement experience in the U.S. after graduating from a certified law enforcement academy (Federal, State, or County level).
• Graduate of a Law Enforcement or Military Police Training Program or equivalent (must provide credentials upon applying).
• Valid Driver's License.
• Law Enforcement Officer License.
• 22+ years of age.
• Able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• No felony convictions or convictions for abuse of a household member under the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18 U.S.C. 922(g)(9)).
• No documented truthfulness infractions in violation of Giglio/Henthorn for federal impeachment proceedings.
• Must be able to supervise personnel and work effectively with airport management, tenants, other law enforcement agencies, and the public on security-related matters.
• No record of moral turpitude, domestic violence, untruthfulness, or mental/emotional disorders that may interfere with job performance.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to clients by carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and emergency response activities.
• Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner.
• Exercise sound judgment and render immediate, appropriate decisions under stressful conditions.
• Conduct routine vehicle and foot patrols to maintain a visible presence and deter security-related incidents.
• Monitor for unusual activity, unauthorized access, and potential hazards; report observations and incidents through established procedures.
• Maintain required reports, activity logs, and documentation; handle assigned equipment in accordance with laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Provide court appearances for citations issued on behalf of DOTA, with replacement staffing provided as needed.
• Demonstrate maturity in conduct, behavior, and attitude; follow instructions and accept responsibility for actions.
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English.
• Maintain courtesy in interactions with the public, airport employees, tenants, law enforcement, and security personnel.

Qualifications

The following formal education, licenses, and certifications are required:

• Completion of one of the following approved programs:
  • Certified State law enforcement recruit training.
  • Certified County law enforcement recruit training.
  • Federal law enforcement training.
  • Programs approved by the Director.
• Valid driver’s license (required for driving positions).

Physical Requirements

• Mentally and emotionally capable of performing all assigned duties.
• Good physical health and fully capable of performing normal or emergency duties requiring moderate to arduous physical exertion (e.g., standing, walking, patrolling, climbing stairs, running, self-defense).
• Ability to perform essential physical tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:
  • Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs. (e.g., fire extinguisher) for a designated distance.
  • Assisting in the safe evacuation of individuals, including carrying a small child or supporting persons with limited mobility.
• Ability to exercise physical force, if required, in the execution of official duties.
• Pass a security background check conducted by the DOTA pass and ID office.
• Well-groomed and neat in appearance as officially commissioned representatives of the State.
• Pass and complete a one-time physical examination within the past 6 months.
• Pass a 12-panel drug test and all future random drug testing.
• Correctable vision to 20/30 in each eye with normal color vision.
• Able to hear at a normal conversational level (hearing aid permissible).
