About the role
The Later in Life Outreach/Client Support Advocate serves as a staff member at will of Domestic Violence Intervention Services (DVIS). This position leads the initiative to increase understanding and coordinate the response to abuse against elders. The advocate facilitates meetings and training on elder abuse, provides outreach and support to grant partners, and manages a caseload of 25-30 clients aged 50 and over, with a focus on the LGBTQ+ community.
Responsibilities
- Reflect and understand how identities could give advantages or disadvantages in the workplace, and ensure an inclusive environment.
- Provide assistance, advocacy, and support to adults 50 and over seeking protective orders, filing criminal charges, and accessing services like counseling, legal aid, and shelter.
- Coordinate the response to crimes against older survivors, organize a multi-disciplinary team, and facilitate meetings.
- Collaborate with the Finance Department to secure financial assistance for clients.
- Organize and facilitate training for law enforcement and other victim service providers on elder abuse.
- Develop and implement outreach activities to community partners.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate files for each client according to agency guidelines.
- Attend meetings and training as requested by supervisor.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, Gerontology, psychology, criminal justice, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of two years’ experience working with victims of crime and/or domestic violence, and experience with a nonprofit is preferred.
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent analytical ability to synthesize complex information.
- Experience with calculating and working with numbers, collecting, and researching data.
- Familiarity with community resources and the criminal justice system.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
- Knowledge of or experience working with social justice issues, specifically intimate partner and gender-based domestic and sexual violence, and racial, class, gender, and sexual orientation issues.

Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license; current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
- Reliable transportation is required.
