Landscaping Laborer

About the role

We welcome applicants who qualify for the AbilityOne Program. It's a federal program that helps adults with disabilities find jobs and receive support services.

Flexible Schedule

1 Day a Week (Tuesday) – Every Other Week.
Shift: 7:00am to 3:30pm (Times Will Vary Based on Inclement Weather).

Location

Charlotte Airport Traffic Control Tower.

A Day in the Life of a Landscaping Crew Member

  • Check in with supervisor and team members.
  • Review the day’s assignments and load up the truck with tools and equipment.
  • Arrive at the assigned location and start work by:
    • Mowing large lawn areas, edging sidewalks and driveways, and trimming around trees, fences, and other hard-to-reach spots.
    • Focusing on landscaping tasks like weeding flowerbeds, pruning shrubs and small trees, laying mulch, or planting seasonal flowers.
    • Blowing off walkways, clearing debris, and making sure everything looks polished.
  • Reload tools, clean up the work area, and communicate any site notes or equipment issues to the crew leader.
  • Help unload, clean up, and prepare for the next day upon arrival back to the office.

Physical & Environmental Demands

  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Involves repetitive motions such as raking, shoveling, trimming, and pushing landscaping equipment.
  • Requires sufficient hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to handle tools and perform detailed tasks.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • May involve exposure to dust, pollen, fertilizers, and other landscaping materials or chemicals.
  • Requires visual acuity to inspect work quality, identify hazards, and ensure safety compliance.
  • Must be able to hear and respond to verbal instructions, equipment sounds, and environmental cues.
  • Involve navigating uneven terrain, slopes, and potentially slippery or muddy surfaces.
  • May require wearing personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, and boots.
