About the role

This position will participate in the design of the public realm and human-centered mobility, performing all conventional aspects of landscape architecture and urban design assignments. Work emphasizes design and technical aspects of projects, with a focus on coordination across disciplines to improve community and infrastructure outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Investigate, evaluate, and recommend design and technical solutions that best meet project needs.
- Lead discrete technical tasks from conceptual planning and concept development through construction documentation for landscape architecture and urban design tasks.
- Develop conceptual, design development, and construction-level plans and technical specifications for urban design and landscape architecture (layout plans, planting plans, grading plans, and construction details) using CAD software.
- Develop preliminary design concepts, technical solutions, studies, graphics, models, animations, photo-simulations, illustrations, and reports for projects.
- Assist in directing landscape architectural, land planning, transportation, and urban design projects from concept development through working or submission drawings and final urban design plans.
- Coordinate with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house personnel regularly to complete assigned tasks.
- Lead the production of 3D graphics and renderings using the latest software.
- Present project work to client and community groups.
- Support public outreach coordination and facilitation.
- Assist in preparing scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFPs.
- May oversee the work and mentor less experienced staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design, or related field and 4 years of related professional experience, or
- Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design, or related field and 3 years of related professional experience.
Skills
- Urban design knowledge and skills focused on the public realm and human-centered mobility.
- Ability to provide graphics, renderings, and visualizations for internal and external communication, presentations, and reports.
- Intermediate design and production skills with attention to detail and construction/technical competency (e.g., PS&E) for assembling TxDOT construction packages, with oversight from more experienced staff.
- Ability to develop estimates and take-off lists with guidance from more experienced staff.
- Experience delegating tasks and supporting the growth of less experienced staff.
- Strong design and production skills with a high level of construction/technical competency.
- Confidence in presenting projects to clients and in public settings.
- Ability to organize scheduling of specific tasks and assignments.
- Verification that the QC process has been followed.
- Proficiency with one or more CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.), 3D visualization software (SketchUp, Rhino, Revit, Lumion, etc.), and graphics software (Adobe Creative Suite).
- Provides guidance to less experienced staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design, or related field.
- Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) or Registered Architect (RA) license.
