About the role
Fehr Graham, a fast-growing Midwest engineering and environmental firm, is seeking a Land Survey CAD Technician to support our survey and civil engineering teams. You’ll create the plans, maps, and exhibits that help move municipal, transportation, utility, and development projects forward. This position can be fully remote anywhere in Illinois or based in any of our Illinois offices.
Responsibilities
- Develop existing conditions plans, base maps, ALTA and boundary surveys, Certified Survey Maps, plats, legal exhibits, and record drawings.
- Create digital terrain models, surfaces, contours, and breaklines from field data.
- Prepare survey deliverables for municipal, transportation, roadway, utility, commercial, and residential projects.
- Assist with subdivision plats, easement exhibits, legal descriptions, and construction staking calculations.
- Review field notes, control reports, and survey calculations for completeness and drafting accuracy.
- Coordinate survey information with civil engineering design and land survey teams to keep drawings consistent throughout project development.
- Apply company and client CAD standards, including templates, layers, and file organization.
- Research deeds, plats, right-of-way documents, GIS data, and public records.
- Manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and complete quality-control reviews before deliverables are issued.
Requirements
An associate degree, certificate, or equivalent training in surveying technology, civil engineering technology, drafting, or a related field is preferred. We are looking for someone with 4+ years of survey CAD experience, but we will also consider candidates with strong technical skills and relevant CAD production experience.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software; MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or Revit experience is a plus.
- Understand land surveying principles, terminology, and field procedures.
- Understand Illinois Department of Transportation standards.
- Able to interpret field notes, plats, deeds, legal descriptions, and survey records.
- Understand coordinate systems, projections, and basic surveying calculations.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, ability to contribute to a team, and work independently when needed.
- Eagerness to improve drafting workflows and grow within a consulting environment.
