LAN DC Network Engineer (Information System Analyst II, Opt N)

About the role

The Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) is seeking to hire a Local Area Network (LAN) Data Center (DC) Network Engineer. This role serves as a technical expert in Enterprise Data Center Network Architecture, layer 2 and layer 3 switching design, and enterprise network security applications. The position involves serving as a technical project coordinator and analyst for design, development, and modification of complex network communications solutions for multi-tiered applications and server farm interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a technical expert in Enterprise Data Center Network Architecture, layer 2 and layer 3 routing, Data center switching architecture, Data center capacity planning, Local Area Network (LAN) design and VLAN design, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), IP address management, and Quality of Service (QOS).
  • Configures, tests, and maintains various make and models of LAN switches, routers, network authentication systems and internet gateways, including designing, installing, and maintaining network cabling.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the information technology field by continuing education through online training platforms, meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Requirements

  • Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in Network Services or a related Information Technology field.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience with Layer 2 switching, Layer 3 routing, Data center switching architecture, Data center capacity planning, Local Area Network (LAN) design and VLAN design, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), IP address management, and Quality of Service (QOS).
  • Three (3) years of professional experience with Access List configuration, Domain Name Services (DNS), and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).
  • Three (3) years of professional experience with Cloud Computing, Internet gateways, Network security, Internet Protocol Security (IPSEC), and network authentication.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience with traffic analyzers (Sniffers), Network Diagnostic and Management Tool Integration, Video over IP, and Voice over IP (VoIP).

  • Requires the ability to use agency supplied equipment such as laptop, personal computer, work cell phone, etc.
  • Requires the ability to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, short notice, evening, weekends, and holidays.
  • Requires the ability to attend seminars, conferences, and training to remain current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to job duties.
  • Requires the ability to lift and carry objects or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.

Skills

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex network problems independently.
  • Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgement in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature.
  • Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients, and others.
  • Developed verbal and written communication skills to present technical information clearly and precisely to diverse audiences, including business users, development teams, agency executives, and others.
