About the Role

As a Lactation Consultant RN, you will create breastfeeding plans, educate parents and staff, update protocols, and provide consultation to ensure infants and parents thrive during breastfeeding.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage breastfeeding for infant health by offering consultations, materials, and classes to parents and the medical team.
  • Evaluate parent and baby interest in breastfeeding and provide specialized support for mothers.
  • Conduct bedside consultations and follow-up visits in the hospital.
  • Educate medical staff on breastfeeding protocols, care plans, and recent information.
  • Document all teachings and responses, communicating findings to relevant staff members.
  • Regularly assess the efficiency of the breastfeeding program and implement necessary changes.
  • Participate in collecting data and reporting on neonatal outcomes, specifically related to breastfeeding.
  • Provide parents with information and demonstrations about breast pump rentals or purchases, if required.

  • Ability to interact positively with diverse populations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including software use, data entry, record-keeping, and handheld device scanning.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree, preferably in nursing.
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience.
  • Required certifications/licenses:
    • BLS Certification
    • Registered Nurse (RN) license
    • Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

Schedule

Part-time days.
