Lactation Consultant RN
Job Summary
As a Lactation Consultant RN - Acute Inpatient, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in line with the requirements of the department and the standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. You will collaborate with medical providers and the care team, providing personalized, comprehensive, and compassionate care, following established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage." You will also act as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers, embodying the organization's vision, mission, and values to ensure an outstanding patient experience and positive clinical outcomes.
What you will do in your role
- Conduct hospital rounds to evaluate mother and infant needs as they relate to breastfeeding and the initiation of lactogenesis
- Obtain and maintain current competency and/or certification for the practice of lactation consulting
- Educate mothers in the use of electric and manual breast pumps and provides information on storage and transfer of expressed breast milk
- Participate in the education of hospital staff in the Women’s Services departments
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required.
- BSN preferred.
- Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License (Employees with RN Compact License are required to obtain Texas RN License within 90 days of hire date).
- American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification.
- Neonatal Respiration Program Certification (NRP) or to complete within one year of date of hire.
- Two years of staff nurse experience in women’s services.
- Breastfeeding education experience with minimum of two year’s working with childbearing and breastfeeding families.
- Completion of certification requirements for IBCLC preferred.
