Duties

  • Mows grass, lays sod, weeds flowerbeds, trims and edges walkways and lawns.
  • Prunes shrubs and trees; applies fertilizer, waters plants, cleans out drainage ditches, shovels snow from walks and driveways.
  • Loads and unloads conveyances; moves materials using wheelbarrows, hand trucks or dollies; stacks and arranges supplies for storage; collects refuse and recyclable materials.
  • Digs, fills and tamps soil and gravel in earth excavations; levels ground using pick, shovel, tamper and rake.
  • Cleans rugs and drapes. Cleans, waxes and polishes floors using heavy industrial-powered equipment.
  • Adjusts, cleans, oils and changes attachments on machines.
  • Washes and replaces room fixtures using ladders and scaffolds. Uses chemicals and cleaning solutions.
  • Maintains stock of cleaning materials and implements used.
  • Notifies supervisor when additional materials are needed.
  • Moves heavy items of furniture and office equipment as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2.
  • Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry moderate to heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Must also be able to actively bend, stoop, stand, reach, and work in awkward positions.
  • Works indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions when working outdoors.
  • Exposed to drafts, noise, dust, and dirt. Possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes.
  • Required to follow safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, and safety glasses to avoid possible hazards in the work area.
  • 0530 to 1500 depending on time of year. Some weekend and holiday shifts should be expected.

Qualifications

  • Resumes must be two pages (or less).
  • Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position.
  • Three (3) months of laboring experience required.
  • Must have the ability to use, control and clean tools and power equipment used.
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions involving duties with several distinct tasks or steps without constant supervisor of each task assigned.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Manual skill to lift and move moderately heavy objects.
  • Skill and knowledge to safely operate simple power equipment and hand tools (lawnmowers, leaf blowers, edgers and trimmers, scrubbers and buffers, steam cleaners and vacuums).
  • A basic knowledge is required of routine maintenance procedures for power equipment.

  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized.
  • This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week – whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
  • Access to certain federal facilities may require a REAL ID-compliant driver's license/ID or an Enhanced Driver's License from WA, MI, MN, NY, or VT.
