Laborer Journeyperson

About the role

Performs skilled construction tasks including site prep, material handling, and operation of hand and power tools. Supports excavation, concrete, demolition, and general project activities while maintaining a clean, safe work area. This role requires adherence to state safety regulations and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties within a precise limit or standard of accuracy (Quality Control).
• Rigging, signaling, and flagging for heavy-construction lifts.
• Identifies and reports hazardous materials to maintain a safe, compliant job site.
• Performs trenching and excavation tasks following safety standards and grade requirements.
• Assists with asbestos and lead abatement procedures in accordance with regulatory protocols.
• Supports concrete and asphalt preparation, placement, and finishing on heavy-construction projects.
• Completes weatherization tasks to improve energy efficiency and protect structures from environmental conditions.
• Works well with supervision and may be required to train and supervise apprentices.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years or more in refinery maintenance experience.
• Thorough understanding of Laborer type work and expertise in basic hand tools.
• Strong knowledge of industrial safety standards and protocols.
• Able to communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and other departments about issues and solutions.
• Proficiency in mechanical systems is essential, along with the ability to read and interpret technical schematics and manuals.
• Able to logically diagnose and solve complex equipment issues independently.
• Must be able to pass a Laborer Craft proficiency test at or above 70% or complete the NCCER certification for your craft.
• Must complete the Company’s Safety training, Process Safety Management training, and Client/Site specific training.
• Must obtain and maintain active status within the appropriate drug testing program.
• Must pass background check.
• Must have TWIC card.
• Must have a 20-hour high hazard facility training card.
• Must have Verification of 6,000 craft related hours OR Graduated journeyperson status preferred.

Physical Requirements

Employee will be standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting. Must be able to hear, speak, understand, and communicate effectively. May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50lbs. Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off of platforms while utilizing proper fall protection and safety protocols. Must be capable of working outside in the elements, including but not limited to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, and must be able to work for long periods of time, up to 12 hours a day. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.

Pay

The typical hiring range for this position in Washington is $35.00 to $42.00 per hour. The full range for this position, available over time, is $35.00 to $48.00 per hour.
