Laborer (Grounds Maint.) Seasonal

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Performs responsible semi-skilled work assisting in the maintenance of city owned property; does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class works under direct supervision of the grounds maintenance crew leader assisting in lawn maintenance of city owned grounds.

Assists in Operating Various Equipment

• Operates various equipment associated with cutting and trimming grass, trees, shrubbery, etc.
• Operates mowers, string trimmer, edger, blower.

Picks Up Trash and Debris

• Picks up trash and debris around city property.
• Empties trash containers.

Related Tasks

• Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• General knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in grounds maintenance.
• Ability to acquire a knowledge within a reasonable time period of the methods and techniques of grounds maintenance.
• Ability to accurately follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to perform difficult manual labor for extended periods of time, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
• Ability to use department related equipment and materials safely with training.

Education And Experience

• Any combination of education and experience in ground maintenance.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to perform the basic life operational skills of climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to perform occasional heavy work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Special Requirements

• Legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License.
