Laborer/Groundman

About the role

As a Laborer/Groundman, you will develop new skills, work in a safety-minded environment, and join us in expanding technology for a better community. You are responsible for providing general labor for aerial and underground construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform various manual tasks such as digging trenches, unloading building materials, and preparing job sites with the use of hand tools like shovels, rakes, and picks
• Perform fiber blowing operations as directed, assisting in the installation of fiber optic cable in conduits using fiber-blowing equipment
• Conduct general labor on construction sites
• Conduct placement of conduit as directed by the Foreman or Supervisor
• Read and interpret maps, drawings, and diagrams for the project build process
• Support trench digging and closing
• Support the movement of materials and vehicles as directed by the Foreman or Supervisor
• Conduct maintenance services as directed by the Foreman to include: cleanup, wash vehicles, and landscaping
• Perform all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and use appropriate safety equipment
• Operate vehicles and equipment from trucks to other equipment, as directed and certified
• Tow various trailers with flatbed trucks
• Conduct aerial/underground work as needed and directed, and as trained
• Troubleshoot RF and Fiber line and/or equipment issues
• Construct and repair underground RF and Fiber service
• Read and construct from a design schematic of a map
• Learn all the inventory and equipment required for these projects
• As applicable, learn and be certified on the use of equipment: line truck, bucket truck, cable reel equipment, saws, and drills
• Climb poles with climbing equipment safely
• Move and relocate RF and Fiber service
• Be familiar with NESC (National Electrical Safety Commission) safety guidelines

Qualifications

• Knack for figuring out hard problems and enjoy a hands-on approach to your work
• Looking for long-term projects
• Enjoy getting your hands dirty with your team
• Valid driver's license
• Clean driving record
• Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs
• Ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for the project build process
• Ability to read and understand design schematics and maps
• Climbing certification or related experience
• Practical working experience in overhead construction for both RF and Fiber
• Knowledge of Overhead Bill of Materials
• City, County, and State clearance code knowledge and related
• Extensive knowledge of Network architecture and design for both RF and Fiber networks
• Flagger Certified for field work as needed
• Excellent verbal, written, phone, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment

Pay

$26-$28 per hour, depending on experience.
