About the role
As a Laborer/Groundman, you will develop new skills, work in a safety-minded environment, and join us in expanding technology for a better community. You are responsible for providing general labor for aerial and underground construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform various manual tasks such as digging trenches, unloading building materials, and preparing job sites with the use of hand tools like shovels, rakes, and picks
- Perform fiber blowing operations as directed, assisting in the installation of fiber optic cable in conduits using fiber-blowing equipment
- Conduct general labor on construction sites
- Conduct placement of conduit as directed by the Foreman or Supervisor
- Read and interpret maps, drawings, and diagrams for the project build process
- Support trench digging and closing
- Support the movement of materials and vehicles as directed by the Foreman or Supervisor
- Conduct maintenance services as directed by the Foreman to include: cleanup, wash vehicles, and landscaping
- Perform all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and use appropriate safety equipment
- Operate vehicles and equipment from trucks to other equipment, as directed and certified
- Tow various trailers with flatbed trucks
- Conduct aerial/underground work as needed and directed, and as trained
- Troubleshoot RF and Fiber line and/or equipment issues
- Construct and repair underground RF and Fiber service
- Read and construct from a design schematic of a map
- Learn all the inventory and equipment required for these projects
- As applicable, learn and be certified on the use of equipment: line truck, bucket truck, cable reel equipment, saws, and drills
- Climb poles with climbing equipment safely
- Move and relocate RF and Fiber service
- Be familiar with NESC (National Electrical Safety Commission) safety guidelines
Qualifications
- Safety is a part of your day-to-day
- Track record of completing work with a high level of quality
- Knack for figuring out hard problems and enjoy a hands-on approach to your work
- Looking for long-term projects
- Enjoy getting your hands dirty with your team
- Valid driver's license
- Clean driving record
- Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs
- Ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for the project build process
- Ability to read and understand design schematics and maps
- Climbing certification or related experience
- Practical working experience in overhead construction for both RF and Fiber
- Knowledge of Overhead Bill of Materials
- City, County, and State clearance code knowledge and related
- Extensive knowledge of Network architecture and design for both RF and Fiber networks
- Flagger Certified for field work as needed
- Excellent verbal, written, phone, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment
Pay
$26-$28 per hour, depending on experience.
