Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, or sanitary systems
- Maintain and repair the establishment’s machinery
- Keep building woodwork in good repair
- Replace electrical switches, fixtures, and motors
- Occasionally paint or touch up structures and equipment
- Repair or replace plumbing fixtures
- Replace broken window panes
- Act as specialist laborer including:
- Mason tender or concrete pour crew
- Scaffold builder (scaffolds up to 14 feet in height)
- Operator of forklifts, Bobcats (or equivalent machinery)
- Operator of jack hammers, tampers, motorized tampers and compactors, vibrators
- Operator of street cleaning machines, hydro demolition equipment
- Operator of riding motor buggies, conveyors
- Burners and nozzlemen on gunite work
- Respond to overtime or off-duty recalls from designated company authority to meet priority or emergency work requirements
- Assure the protection of surrounding work areas and compliance with required safety rules and regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum four years’ experience in general maintenance and repair
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, roof repair and basic electrical
- Ability to determine work methods to accomplish assignments
- Ability to perform work in accordance with applicable building codes and government and COS rules and regulations
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Frequent inside/outside contacts requiring the use of tact to avoid friction and secure cooperation
- Ability to calculate figures such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Pay
Up to USD $40.97/Hr.
