About the Role

Laborers provide general support and assistance to skilled crafts working on the project, including form carpenters, concrete operations, ironworkers, rodbusters, and masons. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Responsibilities

• Prepare areas for concrete placement, including final excavation of dirt and rock and fine grading for floor slabs.
• Assemble concrete forms, lift prefabricated metal form panels, and assist in their placement.
• Handle concrete buckets suspended from cranes to transfer concrete from trucks to placement areas.
• Spread and muck concrete in slabs after pouring.
• Assist in stripping and transporting concrete forms after curing.
• Support concrete finishers by moving power trowels and power screeds.
• Assist block masons by handling and transporting materials such as cement, lime, sand, grout, blocks, and bricks.
• Support carpenters in handling and setting door frames.
• Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools.
• Distribute site materials according to project plans and specifications.
• Maintain a clean and organized jobsite, including sweeping and securing the site at the end of each day.
• Promote a safe work environment and communicate jobsite hazards.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Follow safe work practices in accordance with the Hensel Phelps safety and health program.
• Ability to take initiative and follow instructions with keen attention to detail.
• Provide own safety footwear.
• Effective communication with co-workers and stakeholders.
• Strong mathematical reasoning and quantitative skills.
• Reliability and punctuality.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in construction layout, blueprint reading, and shop drawing reading.
• OSHA 10 Certification.
• CPR & First Aid Certification.

Physical Demands

• Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly.
• Frequent walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, stooping, standing, and finger/typing.
• Climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps at various heights.
• Working from heights for extended periods.
• Balancing, stooping, and reaching for various lengths of time.
• Grasping objects regularly with fingers and palms.
• Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle.
• Exposure to high/low temperatures, noisy environments, and outdoor elements (precipitation, wind).
• Use of hands and wrists with tools, including prolonged use of jackhammers, pavement breakers, wheelbarrows, and brooms.
• Repetitive use of power, rotational, and vibration tools.
• Tolerance for exposure to dusts and chemicals (e.g., cement dust, solvents, curing compounds).
• Ability to safely wear a respirator and pass applicable medical and fit testing.
• Ability to hear commands and back-up safety alarms on equipment.
