About the role

Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
- Wash Rail equipment and other parts of the train including but not limited to all passenger cars. Fueling and Sanding on a needs basis.
- Clean & Service cars/engine rooms, Clean-up work areas and disposal of trash throughout the day.
- General housekeeping of all rail equipment
- Operate a Forklift
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor and managers in accordance with union agreement and incidental work rule provisions.
Requirements
- High School diploma/GED
- Valid Driver's License
- 2 years of combined work experience in a relevant field (Formal education may be substituted for experience)
- Previous experience in construction, maintenance, or warehouse work is a plus (but not required)

- Ability to read and understand safety instructions, manuals, and directives
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and complete tasks accurately
- Ability to solve basic problems and escalate issues to supervisors as necessary

- Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications--both general and technical)
- Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
- Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)
Physical Requirements
- Heavy work, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis
- Prolonged periods of standing, & stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on a regular basis
- Push/pull/grip/carry on a regular basis
- Walking long distances over uneven terrain
- Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity
- Exposure to various outdoor weather conditions
- Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis
Employment Conditions
- Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
- Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots and safety glasses
- Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work
- Complete annual training and pass safety rules examination
- Subject to random testing for drugs and/or alcohol per certifications
- Must pass all required assessments Required to pass a post-offer medical examination, including drug and alcohol testing
- This position will be governed by a collective bargaining agreement, membership is required
- Active employees must complete one year in current position or craft before applying for positions
