Job Title Laborer 1 FLSA Classification Non-exempt Salary Range Commensurate with experience Reports to Golf Course Superintendent Job Summary The Laborer 1 supports the Golf Course Superintendent and maintenance team in performing basic groundskeeping and golf course maintenance tasks. This entry-level position is designed for individuals with limited experience, providing hands-on training in turf management, equipment operation, and general course upkeep. The Laborer 1 assists with daily maintenance activities to ensure the golf course remains in excellent condition for members and guests, while gaining practical skills and experience in golf course operations. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Assist the Golf Course Superintendent and maintenance staff with basic turf management tasks, including mowing, trimming, fertilization, and watering. Help maintain greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, and practice areas in proper condition. Operate or assist with the operation of golf course equipment under supervision. Perform general groundskeeping tasks, such as raking, debris removal, and cleanup of maintenance areas. Assist in setting up and maintaining equipment and supplies for daily operations and special events. Follow instructions from supervisors and work cooperatively with the maintenance team. Adhere to all safety, environmental, and operational procedures. Observe and learn best practices in golf course maintenance and operations. Competencies Willingness to learn and develop skills in golf course maintenance and groundskeeping. Follows instructions accurately and works effectively under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent. Communicates clearly and professionally with supervisors and team members. Maintains attention to detail and performs tasks with care and diligence. Exhibits reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic. Works cooperatively as part of a team to support golf course operations. Demonstrates commitment to safety, cleanliness, and professionalism. Shows flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, outdoor work environment. Supervisory Responsibilities No supervisory duties are included in this position. Work Environment Primarily outdoors on the golf course, including greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, and practice areas. Frequent interaction with the Golf Course Superintendent and maintenance staff. Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and sun. Fast-paced and physically active environment during peak maintenance periods and special events. Use of hand tools, power tools, and golf course equipment under supervision. Requires flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on course operations and events. Professional appearance, adherence to safety protocols, and compliance with club standards required at all times. Physical Demands Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the golf course and maintenance areas for extended periods. Frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of tools, equipment, and materials (up to 25–30 lbs). Ability to operate or assist with golf course machinery and equipment under supervision. Requires manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for basic maintenance tasks. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining safety and professionalism. Must maintain focus, alertness, and safety awareness in a physically active environment. Education and Experience (Required and Preferred) High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required. No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided. Basic knowledge of golf course maintenance, groundskeeping, or landscaping helpful but not necessary. Willingness to learn, follow instructions, and work as part of a team. Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality. Ability to maintain a professional attitude and adhere to safety standards.
