We are seeking a hands-on Laboratory Technician to support a Research & Development team in Plymouth, MN. This role focuses on supporting research projects, conducting experiments and pilot-scale trials, performing routine laboratory testing, and documenting results.

Responsibilities

  • Support research scientists with laboratory experiments and research projects.
  • Conduct fermentation trials and other planned pilot-scale experiments.
  • Perform routine laboratory analysis and microbiological plating.
  • Collect, organize, document, and communicate experimental results.
  • Execute designed experiments and troubleshoot issues that arise during testing.
  • Perform microbiology sampling and use appropriate sterile techniques when required.
  • Assist with maintaining laboratory and pilot plant equipment.
  • Follow applicable EHS and food-safety requirements.
  • Work effectively with scientists and other team members.
  • Perform additional laboratory and project-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree with interest in Engineering, Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Food Science, or related Science field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, teamwork, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety in the job environment.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Ability to execute designed experiments as well as troubleshoot and make corrections during experimentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Food Science, or related Science field.
  • Experience conducting fermentations and knowledge of fermentation biology.
  • 6 months to 3 years of experience in a food-grade pilot plant environment.
  • Hands-on experience in microbiology sampling, sterile technique, and/or fermentation principles and operation.
  • Experience with downstream purification technologies, such as chromatography, separations, centrifugation, filtration, membrane separation, crystallization, and evaporation.
