Laboratory Technician

About the Role

Plan, organize, and perform test activities in laboratories according to test procedures, drawings, diagrams, engineering documents, and specifications as requested by test engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the working area for tests, set up testing equipment, and ensure activities follow defined procedures.
  • Set up test fixtures as required by test protocol, including fixture fabrication if necessary.
  • Organize and set up tracking methodology to ensure samples can be identified afterward.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and calibration on all assigned laboratory equipment within technical capability.
  • Maintain test records and prepare relevant test documentation and reports on performed activities.
  • Effectively communicate test status and results to responsible test engineers and other engineering group members.
  • Maintain testing equipment and organize and store test fixtures to ensure lab cleanliness and security.
  • Adhere to all management policies, procedures, work instructions, and safety rules, including safe handling of chemicals and fluids in accordance with MSDS.
  • Perform hands-on work with various types of air, oil, fuel, and hydraulic filters.
  • Work closely with team members to maintain and improve lab equipment.
  • Use hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, and screwdrivers.
  • Lift, push, pull, and move products up to 50–100 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Work on other projects or areas as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate degree in industrial technology or related discipline preferred).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in an industrial or laboratory environment.

Skills

  • Knowledge of test methods, techniques, set-up, tools, equipment, materials, and products, as well as the ability to analyze and evaluate test results.
  • Ability to work in teams and strong communication skills.
  • Able to take direction and training from experienced lab personnel; must be able to work under minimal supervision once trained.
  • Familiarity with lab databases (PVS, PLCM, etc.).
  • Understanding of norms, specifications, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Familiarity with ASTM, ISO, and customer specifications (filtration products knowledge a plus).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to work with basic tools.
