Laboratory Technician

About the role

The Controlled Environments Team seeks a motivated and responsible Greenhouse Technician to support research operations at a four-acre facility in Johnston, Iowa.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily greenhouse plant care including watering checks, harvesting, discarding plants, and seed processing and handling for corn, soybean, wheat, and other crops.
• Move plant carts in and out of greenhouses and assist with experiments, data collection, and record maintenance.
• Operate threshing machinery safely as trained and as outlined in protocols.
• Follow all safety and process protocols at all times.
• Maintain accurate plant and seed identity across thousands of unique identities.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and safety and ergonomics protocols with attention to detail.
• Strong communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, positive attitude, and ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
• Ability to stand and sit for extended periods and lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
• Ability to perform repetitive work in a warm, humid greenhouse with pollen present year-round.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in agriculture, horticulture, biology, or related field, or three or more years of related experience, or equivalent education and experience.
• Experience safely operating machinery and following protocols.
• Basic computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, and ability to learn internal research software.

Pay

$20/hr - $22/hr (W2)

Schedule

7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
