About the role
We are seeking a full-time Laboratory Technician responsible for various laboratory testing including titrations, ICP analysis, and viscosity testing. This individual will follow all safety and quality guidelines while maintaining satisfactory production levels.
Responsibilities
- Perform tasks within time constraints according to relevant quality and safety policies.
- Use test method results in calculations (e.g., Calculated Cetane Index, Viscosity Index).
- Prepare and/or aliquot samples for required tests.
- Load samples on validated automated instrumentation.
- Perform routine daily/weekly verifications and calibrations on equipment following method quality requirements (minimum Level 3 or 4 for some methods).
- Conduct direct testing (e.g., wet chemistry), with minimum levels varying by method complexity, safety, and quality risk.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, with minimum levels varying by task complexity, safety, and quality risk.
- Perform calculations for analytical preparations.
- Prepare samples for multiple testing requirements.
- Handle housekeeping duties, including storage and disposal of client samples.
- Monitor inventory levels for supplies and reagents.
- Prepare and maintain standards and reagents (minimum Level 2 for some standards).
- Generate, handle, transport, and dispose of hazardous wastes in compliance with ALS policy.
- Collect, store, and label hazardous waste.
- Contribute to sample receival (opening packages, sorting mail, data entry).
- Participate in shift handovers to ensure smooth transitions.
- Identify continuous improvement activities for the site.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED (required).
- Laboratory experience (preferred).
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand for intervals of up to 8 hours.
- Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with co-workers and managers.
- Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate equipment and handle glassware.
- Average vision to read reports and operate equipment.
- Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
