Support undergraduate biology laboratory courses at UConn Stamford under the direction of the Director of Academic Affairs.
Responsibilities
- Collect materials/specimens for laboratory exercises and prepare reagents, media, stains, enzymes, solutions, lab supplies, and apparatus.
- Set up and maintain the laboratory, assign equipment, glassware, and supplies.
- Assist faculty, teaching assistants, and students in the proper and safe use of equipment.
- Edit and update lab manuals; stay current on new procedures.
- Assist in identifying and resolving routine experimental problems and improve demonstration materials.
- Monitor inventory levels, order supplies, and ensure the security of supplies and equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper working order of laboratories.
- Perform maintenance and minor repair of laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Enforce departmental safety rules, including creating and maintaining appropriate records.
- Participate in meetings to evaluate laboratory procedures.
- Perform related work as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- One to two years of related professional experience.
- Demonstrated ability to engage, connect, and work with diverse student, administrative, and faculty populations.
- Demonstrated experience with concepts, practices, and standard laboratory procedures.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to occasionally move containers and trays weighing up to 25 pounds, to and from locations varying in height from 10 to 36 inches.
- Willingness to work weekends and evenings as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or a related field.
- Prior work experience supporting instructional laboratories.
- Experience writing and communicating laboratory procedures and results in a professional setting.
