Laboratory Tech 6 (Met Prep)

About the role

The Metallographic Prep position at ATI involves preparing samples for metallographic evaluation. This includes mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching samples to ensure they are ready for inspection.

Responsibilities

• Mount the material by securing the sample in the appropriate mounting material
• Grind the mounted sample to create a flat and even surface
• Polish the sample by removing deep scratches
• Apply appropriate etching solution to the surface of the sample
• Absorb assistance in routine laboratory operations and/or perform other routine laboratory work as directed
• Perform routine mechanical servicing and minor repairs of testing equipment
• Maintain work areas in clean, safe, and orderly condition
• Generate high-quality testing data for certification by performing duties such as sample preparation, following written procedures, testing, validating, and reporting test results, and recording data into the laboratory information management system (LIMS)

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to read measuring tapes
• Ability to read and follow written procedures
