Met Lab Technician
About The Role
As a Met Lab Technician, you will perform routine, repetitive metallographic laboratory assignments following established procedures and verbal instructions. You will report to the Chem Lab Manager and be located at Columbia, SC. You will support this role 100% onsite.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare samples for testing by cutting, filing, grinding, mounting, polishing and etching.
- Maintain identification of samples through all testing operations and keep records of test results.
- Operate optical, mechanical, corrosion, and metallographic test equipment.
- Perform mathematical calculations for determining density, grain size, corrosion weight gains and percentages.
- Perform visual metallographic inspections.
- Perform routine tests and sample preparation for conversion and pellet areas.
- Perform non-routine sample preparation using written laboratory procedures or verbal instructions from qualified personnel.
- Maintain U-235 accountability log.
- Operate computerized data acquisition systems as related to sample traceability or testing systems.
- Maintain inventory of consumable supplies, prepare storeroom requisitions, and work orders.
- Keep equipment and work area clean and in orderly condition.
- Follow accountability, criticality, safety, security and hygiene procedures.
Qualifications
- A high school graduate or equivalent, with a course in chemistry, physics or electronics, to provide familiarity with laboratory equipment or a relevant technical degree.
- Identify process upsets.
- Two years in an analytical laboratory.
- Perform basic conversions and statistics.
- Analytical chemistry techniques.
- Laboratory, materials engineering, or welding technology.
Pay
The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $55,379 to 72,008 per year.
