Laboratory Specialist

About the role

The Laboratory Specialist position serves as a key point of coordination between laboratory operations, courier services, and internal teams to ensure effective communication, timely issue resolution, and strong working relationships. This role supports daily operational activities by assisting with communication, documentation, process improvements, and resource development to improve workflow efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a primary point of contact between laboratory teams, courier services, and operational sites to support effective communication and coordination.
• Address daily operational questions, concerns, and issues while providing timely follow-up and resolution.
• Maintain positive working relationships with internal teams and external partners.
• Develop and maintain job aids, training resources, and process documentation.
• Create and update tracking tools, including courier site spreadsheets and operational resources.
• Provide customer service support by investigating issues, identifying solutions, and communicating updates effectively.
• Cross-train and assist with multiple operational areas, including: Receiving and handling laboratory samples, Mailroom operations, Kit preparation and inventory support, Stockroom operations, and Support team members and assist in other roles as needed to ensure group operations run efficiently.
• Follow established laboratory procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards.

Requirements

• Knowledge of general laboratory terminology, procedures, safety practices, and basic mathematics.
• Ability to follow established procedures, prioritize tasks, and identify errors.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to provide effective customer service, including problem-solving and investigative skills when working with internal and external clients.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and assist in different roles within the group as needed.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to lift and transport up to 50 pounds.
• Experience using SharePoint and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, as well as other computer software applications as needed.

Qualifications

Experience working in a laboratory, healthcare, logistics, or related operational environment preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to learn multiple functions and provide support across different areas of the group. Flexibility to jump between roles and assist with operational needs during periods of increased workload or downtime.
