Laboratory Services Coordinator

About the role

Full‑time position (40 hours per week) on the Evening Shift (approximately 2 pm–11:30 pm with some flexibility) at Trinity Health Oakland. The role coordinates the efficient operation of specimen reception and the provision of phlebotomy services in the inpatient environment and on‑site outpatient draw stations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate specimen reception and phlebotomy services for inpatient and on‑site outpatient draw stations.
• Participate in quality monitoring to ensure workflow processes are efficient and aligned with excellent customer service.
• Assist the phlebotomy supervisor in training phlebotomists and assessing their competency.
• Coordinate phlebotomy orientation for new nursing personnel.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in medical technology or a related health‑care field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
• Certification in phlebotomy through the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT) or American Society of Certified Phlebotomists (ASCP) required, or obtainable within 12 months of hire.
• Current Heart Saver (HS) certification.
• Minimum two years of experience in a hospital laboratory setting or direct patient‑care work involving phlebotomy in a health‑care environment.
• Previous experience in a lab outpatient area is preferred.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work effectively within a team to solicit cooperation and compliance.
• Ability to train and mentor staff in an encouraging environment.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Good understanding of laboratory operations, terminology, methodology, and logistics in a clinical laboratory.
• Excellent customer‑service orientation for interacting with hospital personnel, outside customers, and community groups.

Schedule

Evening Shift, approximately 2 pm–11:30 pm with some flexibility; full‑time, 40 hours per week.
