Laboratory Manager (National Certified Phlebotomy Tech required)

About the role

The Laboratory Manager is stationed at the El Nuevo San Juan Health Center in the Bronx, NY. The role manages in-house laboratory operations, including staff, policy, and processes, and must hold a National Certified Phlebotomy Technician certificate to perform phlebotomy when needed.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a team of 5 Phlebotomists and 3 Patient Service Representatives across 4 drawing stations and the reception area, including hiring, performance management, training, supervision, and payroll
• Ensure specimen integrity by enforcing collection, handling, and processing procedures
• Maintain, implement, adhere to, and enforce departmental operating policies and procedures
• Conduct phlebotomist training and assess competency for phlebotomy-based roles
• Maintain the operating schedule for laboratory hours to ensure adequate staffing Monday–Saturday
• Liaise with BioReference for specimen pickup and processing
• Run reports in the Electronic Health Records, monitor and track critical laboratory values, and notify providers
• Perform phlebotomy duties as needed to support the team

Requirements

• National Certified Phlebotomy Technician through NHA, AMCA, NPA, or another nationally accredited institution
• Bilingual English/Spanish
• 2–5 years in a laboratory environment including supervisory or lead experience
• Associate’s degree minimum; Bachelor’s degree in Health Services Administration or a related field strongly preferred

Pay

$66,300–$70,000 per year based on 40 regular hours per week; salary contingent on education level and experience.

Schedule

Onsite in the Bronx, NY; Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm; one Saturday shift per month with a weekday off.
