About the role
The Phlebotomist/ Laboratory Technician will provide phlebotomy services and administrative/clerical support for the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).
Responsibilities
- Perform a full range of phlebotomy duties including proper venipuncture and finger-stick and heel-stick procedures.
- Conduct patient in-processing prior to specimen collection, including reviewing paperwork and providing guidance.
- Assemble equipment for specified tests or procedures, ensuring safety and sanitation.
- Verify or record patient identity, conduct interviews, take vital signs, and draw and test blood samples.
- Provide technical oversight and training for invasive procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Maintain the supply inventory and cleanliness of the front desk and phlebotomy area.
- Support various areas of the clinic, including the front desk, exam rooms, and Telehealth.
- Provide instruction on patient-centered specimen collection and special requirements for laboratory-collected specimens.
- Demonstrate knowledge of patient reactions and provide counseling on post-phlebotomy complications.
- Perform general clerical/administrative support coordination work.
- Perform other work related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of two (2) years of current clinical experience working in a similar environment as a phlebotomist.
- Current certification and registration as a Phlebotomy Technician from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (PBT-ASCP) or the American Medical Technologist (RPT-AMT).
- Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to communicate test requests and results effectively.
- Exceptional diplomatic communication skills and experience in handling difficult customer situations.
- Detailed orientation and ability to multi-task.
Preferred Experience
- Graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent.
- Certificate of graduation from an approved/accredited phlebotomy training program or 12 months experience as a Phlebotomist within the past 36 months.
- Medical assistant certification or LPN/LVN certification preferred.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- Moderate physical activity required.
- Standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day may be necessary.
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- May be required to respond to any medical emergency within the clinic.
