Responsibilities

  • Oversee all areas of laboratory services, including pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes.
  • Ensure laboratory practice and documentation meet requirements set forth by CMS, TJC, and State regulatory agencies.
  • Remain accessible to testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic support.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of testing personnel.
  • Monitor test analytes and specimen examination to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
  • Fulfill responsibilities as delegated by the lab director and/or technical supervisor.
  • Resolve technical problems and ensure corrective actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Ensure patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
  • Provide orientation, training, and verify competencies for all testing personnel.
  • Evaluate and document the performance of all testing personnel as required, including upon hire, within six months, at twelve months, and annually thereafter.
  • Enroll the laboratory in an approved Proficiency Testing program commensurate with services offered; participate in testing and maintain acceptable results within procedural guidelines.
  • Establish a Quality Control Program appropriate for the testing performed, including acceptable levels of analytic performance, and ensure these levels are maintained throughout the testing process.
  • Perform and verify test procedures and establish laboratory performance criteria, including accuracy and precision of each test and test system.
  • Follow laboratory requirements for daily instrument preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibrations, quality controls, and proficiency testing with documentation.
  • Check and record laboratory temperature daily with a corrective action plan when temperature deviates from the norm.
  • Maintain close communication with the lab director and meet routinely to review lab practices and results.
  • For ARU locations: Float between CIRH and IRH units as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

If functioning as the technical consultant in addition to the Lab Manager, must meet the following:

  • Current professional license in state of practice, AND
  • Licensed MD/DO/DPM and (Certified in anatomic or clinical pathology OR possess 1 year lab training or experience), OR
  • Possess a Doctoral or Master's Degree in Lab Science AND 1 year lab training or experience, OR
  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Lab Science or Respiratory Therapy AND 2 years lab training or experience.

If functioning as the Lab Manager only, must meet the following:

  • Current professional license in state of practice, AND
  • Bachelor's Degree in Lab Science AND 2 years lab training or experience, OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Cardiovascular Technology and 1 year training or experience, OR
  • Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy and 2 years training or experience.
