About the role

The role of a Trainer Instructor III in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program involves providing instruction and supervision in a laboratory setting to students enrolled in the program. Lab instructors may also assist with mentorship, orientation, and remediation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction and supervision in a laboratory setting to students enrolled in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
  • Assist with mentorship, orientation, and remediation as needed.
  • Facilitate student learning experiences to ensure mastery of stated objectives.
  • Evaluate student learning as described in program assessments.
  • Ensure student safety during laboratory sessions.
  • Adhere to all regulatory requirements for student supervision.
  • Model a positive culture of a healthcare professional.
  • Work with a wide variety of learners and adapt instruction and communication patterns to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and program information.

Requirements

  • AAS in a specific healthcare discipline.
  • Current Virginia license in the specific discipline.
  • Up to date continuing educational compliance.
  • Two years of clinical experience in the professional discipline.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
  • On time attendance to each lab session and communication to program head if an emergency arises that will limit attendance.
  • On time submission of all required documentation.
  • Ability to plan and organize assigned laboratory teaching activities for program placed students according to student level.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the program faculty.
  • Ability to function in the role as a registered health professional and health professional educator.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
  • Prior teaching experience, preferably in a college setting.
  • Experience using classroom technology.
  • Operation of a State Vehicle (no).

Skills

  • Proficiency with all fundamental program-specific skills and equipment.
