About the role

The Laboratory Coordinator I/II serves as an essential operational and administrative partner to the Senior Laboratory Coordinator (SLC) within Zachry Common Labs. This role supports daily, multi-floor laboratory logistics and oversees lab operations under the direction of the SLC. The incumbent provides strategic support and manages institutional documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with daily, multi-floor laboratory logistics and oversight of lab operations under the direction of the Senior Laboratory Coordinator.
  • Supports the teaching, research, and Service Center operations of Zachry Common Labs.
  • Applies standard engineering and scientific techniques to support these operations.
  • Enforces PPE rules and maintains equipment to satisfy seasonal demand.
  • Coordinating with vendors for repair and maintenance, training student workers and staff, and ordering and maintaining appropriate inventory of supplies.
  • Stays current on latest technology and equipment, advising on future purchases/technologies for the labs.
  • Documents SOPs and training manuals for equipment, and assists with longer-term lab organizational efforts.
  • Advises on future purchases/technologies for the labs.
  • Supports research and works with diverse groups of customers.
  • Maintains reference materials, SDS, calibration, safety data forms.
  • Works with diverse groups of customers.
  • May be required to work evenings, and some weekends as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum qualifications for a Laboratory Coordinator I: Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum qualifications for a Laboratory Coordinator II: Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience maintaining equipment to satisfy seasonal demand.
  • Experience coordinating with vendors for repair and maintenance.
  • Experience training student workers and staff.
  • Experience enforcing PPE rules.
  • Experience in daily lab management.
