Laboratory Care Technician
About the role
The Laboratory Care Technician (LCT) position supports M Health Fairview Clinic - Burnsville, working from 9:30am-6:00pm Monday-Thursday and 8:30am-5:00pm Friday. Weekend rotation includes one Saturday at an Urgent Care location in the south metro, and occasional rotations to M Health Fairview Clinic - Prior Lake, Eden Prairie, and Edina.
Responsibilities
- Follows established guidelines to obtain biological specimens and perform procedures.
- Collects biological specimens with appropriate technique following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Communicates special handling needs of the specimen using appropriate communications skills.
- Demonstrates proficiency with point of care testing and/or waived testing.
- May perform EKGs.
- May train others in phlebotomy skills.
- Ensures specimens are acceptable for testing, including properly identified.
- Processes specimens prior to testing or sending to reference labs.
- Monitors inventory, ordering and restocking supplies.
- Mentors and teaches students.
- Prioritizes work to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Transports blood and body fluid under proper conditions and in a timely and safe manner.
- Sets up and maintains equipment.
- Supports and adheres to laboratory quality assurance program.
- Maintains a safe work environment.
- Adheres to safety protocols.
- Follows infection control guidelines.
- Responds appropriately to emergent situations.
Requirements
- High School graduate, equivalent, or a higher degree.
- Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program or Completion of three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience or Enrollment in MLT or MLS program including completion of a phlebotomy course.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Successful customer service background within a diverse cultural setting.
- Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Demonstrate manual dexterity.
- Demonstrates competence and proficient skills in collecting blood samples.
- Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross) certification required when working in clinic setting (not required at Maple Grove Ambulatory Care Center) within 90 Days.
Qualifications

Pay
Compensation within the posted range may be determined by various factors, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization prioritizes pay equity and considers internal team equity when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical. If your role is eligible for a sign-on bonus, the bonus program that is approved and in place at the time of offer, is what will be honored.
Schedule
The hours of the clinic are 7:00am-6:30pm Monday-Thursday and 7:00-5:30 Friday. This position will support the clinic from 9:30am-6:00pm Monday-Thursday and 8:30am-5:00pm Friday. Weekend rotation is one out of five Saturdays at one of our Urgent Care locations in the south metro. Other sites that this position will rotate to are M Health Fairview Clinic - Prior Lake, M Health Fairview Clinic - Eden Prairie and M Health Fairview Clinic - Edina as needed.
