Laboratory Assistant Technical
About the Role
Primarily works in the lab technical departments. Assists with technical procedures within regulatory guidelines. Performs department support functions such as culture plating, histology staining, and specimen loading on instruments depending on department needs and organization.
Responsibilities
- Assists with telephone calls and other departmental clerical duties.
- Performs CLIA-waived and moderate complex testing as allowed by local and state regulations.
- Performs phlebotomy support.
- Handles department specimen intake, processing, and organization for the technical testing area.
- Reviews pending test lists to assist with department turnaround time.
- Assists in solving problems, investigates specimen issues, and addresses customer inquiries.
- Provides information regarding specimen and testing status as appropriate.
- Monitors and stocks department supplies and reagents.
- Logs reagents and supplies following department protocols.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED (required upon hire).
- Certificate from a Lab Assistant Program (preferred).
- 6 months of experience in an acute care facility.
- Certificate from a Phlebotomy program.
