Laboratory Assistant Technical
Job Summary
As a Lab Assistant, you will play a crucial role in solving diagnostic mysteries, bringing us one step closer to effectively treating patient illnesses and injuries. Every day you will utilize your expertise and our advanced technology to precisely collect, prepare, and process a diverse range of patient specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for various diagnostic tests.
Responsibilities

- Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and maintain an eager commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions.
- Receives and prepares various specimens for analysis.
- Properly labels and aliquots.
- Performs department specimen intake, processing and organization for the technical testing area.
- Performs department support functions, such as culture plating, histology staining, specimen loading on instruments depending upon department needs and organization.
- Reviews pending test lists to assist with department turnaround time.
- Aids in solving problems, investigating specimen issues and customer inquiries.
- Provides information regarding specimen and testing status as appropriate.
- Maintains and monitors department supplies and reagents, logs reagents and supplies, following department protocols.
Requirements
- Required High School Graduate General Studies, upon hire or High School GED General Studies, upon hire
- Preferred Certificate from Other Lab Assistant Program and 6 months experience in an acute care facility, upon hire
- Certificate from Other Phlebotomy program, upon hire

St. Luke’s Health - The Woodlands Hospital is a 245 bed facility serving North Harris and Montgomery counties. The hospital has been recognized as a Best Hospital by U.S. News & World Report, and is proud to serve as the clinical home for the Dan L Duncan Cancer Center. The hospital was awarded an “A” hospital safety grade by The Leapfrog Group in both 2023 and 2025. Clinical services provided include cardiovascular services, diagnostic imaging, women’s services (digital mammography and bone density studies), neurosciences, pediatric care (Newborn and Level III nurseries), surgery, pathology and pulmonary services, and sleep disorder services.
Pay Range
$19.49 - $27.52 /hour
