About the role
The Laboratory and Ancillary Services Manager leads the operations of ancillary medical services within the Student Wellness Center, including clinical laboratory and imaging services. This position oversees compliance, accreditation, licensure, quality assurance, and daily operational functions for the laboratory and imaging departments. The incumbent also supervises laboratory and imaging staff and collaborates across the Student Wellness Center to support student success.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations for laboratory and imaging services
- Ensure compliance with CLIA, California Department of Public Health, and accreditation standards
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and operational protocols
- Supervise laboratory and imaging staff, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations
- Maintain quality assurance and quality improvement programs
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and campus partners to support high-quality student care
- Serve as the laboratory representative during accreditation reviews, audits, and site visits
- Support diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives within healthcare delivery and staffing practices
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical laboratory work and the use and care of laboratory equipment
- Thorough knowledge of methods and procedures involved in phlebotomy, including aseptic technique
- Knowledge of the preparation, mounting, and staining of specimens, laboratory tests, and clinical laboratory quality control procedures and standards
- Working knowledge of software applications used at the Student Wellness Center, including electronic health record system or the ability to quickly navigate new electronic health record systems
- Knowledge of laboratory safety fundamentals and OSHA Laboratory Standards
- Identify incongruities in test procedure and inconsistencies in reports of test results for patients
- Demonstrate skill in the performance of a variety of laboratory analyses and evaluate information against measurable criteria
- Keep records and prepare various administrative and laboratory analysis reports
- Handle multiple tasks, organize work priorities and special projects, with the willingness to adjust and be flexible as required
- Maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with employees and external agencies
- Effective communication across a variety of venues
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships in a diverse multicultural environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or equivalent from an accredited institution; OR Equivalent post-secondary education, training and experience as defined by the California Division of Laboratory Science; OR Combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities
- Possess and maintain a valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible administrative and technical work within a clinical laboratory
- At least two (2) years of experience leading or managing a clinical laboratory, including quality management
