Labor Relations Counsel III (Senior Attorney)

About the role

The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) Legal Division seeks an Attorney III to work on diverse labor and employment duties including litigating a wide variety of interesting and impactful labor and employment cases, conducting training, performing workplace investigations, providing in-house counsel on employment and personnel matters, and consulting and drafting legal opinions for high-level executives.

Responsibilities

• Work on a wide variety of labor and employment cases, including administrative hearings, writs, motions, and appeals in civil court.
• Argue consequential matters in superior and appellate courts involving important public policy issues.
• Independently represent CalHR and other departments in civil litigation, including both state and federal courts, and appellate courts in labor law matters.
• Collaborate with a supportive team of attorneys and assistants, and mentor more junior attorneys.
• Enjoy being assigned the majority of your work from the inception of the case and working until its resolution.

Requirements

• Minimum Requirements: CA State BAR License.
• Desirable Qualifications: Excellent written and oral communication skills, practical experience in litigation, knowledge of labor and employment law, and abilities in legal research and analysis.

Qualifications

Applicants must provide a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) that includes specific examples of their education, training, and/or experience, as well as knowledge of and experience in labor and/or employment law as well as any litigation experience, including administrative litigation.

Skills

Strong legal research and analytical skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, practical experience in litigation, and knowledge of labor and employment law.

$10,852.00 - $15,325.00 L/month
