Labor Control Specialist

About the role

The Scheduling Manager at The Freeman Company is responsible for staffing and scheduling necessary and appropriate staff for events. This role involves managing labor coordination processes, ensuring appropriate labor requirements and arrangements, and communicating with Sales and Operations on labor specifications.

Responsibilities

• Staffing all positions for events including local labor, union labor, or vendor labor.
• Managing show site casual labor and union labor activities.
• Acting as labor subject matter expert for assigned cities or regions.
• Advising and participating in the creation of labor policies for assigned cities or regions.
• Recommending and participating in developing best-practices procedures and overseeing these are followed.
• Ensuring efficient utilization of show site labor in a cost-effective manner while adhering to union work rules and vendor agreements.
• Ensuring proper labor documentation requirements are communicated and maintained on show site.
• Ensuring qualified show personnel are assigned.
• Aiding in event labor budgeting as requested.
• Communicating with Sales and Operations to clarify labor requirements and acting as liaison between Sales and Operations on labor specifications.
• Assisting management in labor relations and contract administration.
• Recruiting and qualifying new AV technicians.
• Reviewing union and vendor contracts relevant to assigned cities or regions.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) or equivalent work experience.
• Working knowledge of relevant labor laws (FMLA, ACA, ADA, FLSA, etc.).
• Minimum 3 years of event production and operations experience.
• Labor or staffing coordination experience preferred.
• Thorough understanding of payroll systems and methods of payments to employees and contractors.
• Minimum two years supervisory experience.
• Experience working with unions and interpreting labor contract language is required.
• Thorough understanding of Audio, Video, Lighting, Rigging and Scenic labor requirements.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; expert in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
• Travel 25% to 50%.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) or equivalent work experience.

Skills

• Understanding of relevant labor laws.
• Event production and operations experience.
• Supervisory experience.
• Union and labor contract interpretation skills.
• Microsoft Office Suite proficiency, especially Excel and Google Sheets.

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $75,000 annually, based upon experience.
