About the role

Kaplan Law Firm, PLLC is a nationally recognized employment, whistleblower, and civil rights firm that represents people. Our mission is to end workplace injustice and champion civil rights. We are hiring a Plaintiffs Employment attorney to manage a growing employment docket, litigate cases, and mentor junior attorneys.

Responsibilities

  • Manage your own growing employment docket
  • Manage the discovery process
  • Participate in intakes, scheduling, and data collection for all cases
  • Research and write winning briefs that advance the cause of employee rights and civil rights
  • File and pursue cases in EEOC, IDHR/IDOL
  • Actively litigate cases in federal and state court
  • Suggest and implement improvements for all processes
  • Bill an average minimum of 7.5 hours per week (30 hours per month) on hourly matters
  • Serve as a mentor to junior attorneys by providing guidance, reviewing work product, sharing litigation strategy, and supporting professional development

Requirements

  • 5 years or more of employment law practice
  • Experience with EEOC and IDHR
  • Litigation experience in Cook County and N.D. Ill.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and written work product
  • Ability to manage time independently and work remotely
  • Proficient with law firm software: Microsoft 365, Clio, Slack, Claude, and OneNote
  • A record of excellence in Plaintiff’s side employment, whistleblower, and civil rights work, or comparable experience
  • A record of empathy for workers’ rights and fighting for justice in and out of court

Pay

  • $71,000 minimum biweekly base salary
  • 33% of pro rata contingent collections paid each payroll
  • Bonus true-up to 60% of your collected revenue paid each quarter (uncapped)
  • Additional up to 20% originations
  • Target total compensation: $150,000–$300,000+
