Job Description The Lab Manager provides operational, quality, and regulatory leadership for laboratory services across multiple physician-owned practice locations. This position is responsible for ensuring safe, accurate, compliant, efficient, and standardized laboratory operations supporting hematology, chemistry, urology, and related testing services. The Lab Manager oversees laboratory operations, quality assurance/quality control, proficiency testing, regulatory readiness, staff development, and process improvement. This role partners with physicians, practice leadership, laboratory staff, quality, compliance, and operations teams to ensure consistent laboratory performance and alignment with clinical and organizational objectives. Responsibilities Provide operational oversight and leadership for laboratory services across multiple locations.Ensure laboratory testing is performed safely, accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards.Develop and maintain standardized laboratory workflows, policies, and procedures across locations.Monitor laboratory performance, staffing, productivity, turnaround times, utilization, and service levels.Lead quality assurance and quality control programs, including review of quality indicators, corrective actions, and process improvement opportunities.Oversee proficiency testing activities and ensure appropriate documentation, follow-up, and corrective actions.Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements, including CLIA, CAP when applicable, state regulations, and organizational policies.Maintain laboratory readiness for inspections, audits, and surveys and assist with responding to regulatory findings or deficiencies.Standardize laboratory practices related to instrumentation, quality control, documentation, equipment maintenance, inventory, training, and reporting.Establish and monitor key performance indicators to evaluate laboratory quality, operational performance, and compliance.Provide leadership, coaching, and support to laboratory managers, supervisors, and technical staff.Ensure laboratory personnel receive appropriate training, competency assessments, and ongoing development.Support recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and succession planning for laboratory teams.Partner with physicians, operations, quality, compliance, finance, IT/LIS, procurement, and other stakeholders to optimize laboratory services.Support implementation of new equipment, testing platforms, service lines, laboratory expansions, acquisitions, and integrations.Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce variation, and enhance laboratory capabilities while maintaining quality and compliance.Serve as a subject matter expert regarding laboratory operations, quality systems, and regulatory requirements.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Required Or Preferred Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field required.Master's degree in related discipline, healthcare administration, or business preferred.ASCP, AMT, or other relevant laboratory certification preferred, as applicable.Must meet applicable CLIA and state requirements for the level of laboratory oversight associated with the position. Experience Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive laboratory leadership experience, preferably in a multi-site ambulatory, physician office, hospital outreach, or reference laboratory environment.Demonstrated experience with hematology, chemistry, urinalysis/urology testing, or similar laboratory services.Strong experience with quality assurance/quality control, proficiency testing, regulatory compliance, and inspection readiness.Experience leading multi-site process improvement, standardization, or operational initiatives.Demonstrated ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively across multiple locations and disciplines.
